Abstract : Among different cultivars screened against mango shoot gall psylla (Apsylla cistellata) infestation, all the commercial cultivars grown in Himachal Pradesh, India, i.e. Deshehari Bombay Green, Chausa and Langra showed their significant susceptibility to the pest either during 2002-03 based on their biennial bearing nature. Malika and Amarpali cultivars were the least attacked in both years. Although A. cistellata female laid eggs on tender leaves of 10-year-old mango plants (Dashehari), no egg deposition was recorded on the tender and mature leaves of 1- and 5-year-old plants. Six-year-old grafted plants showed a meager shoot infestation (13.75%). However, sown and grafted plants above 10 years of age were worst affected by the pest incidence. Pruning of galls bearing shoots resulted in 23.30% decrease in the number of galls over the control in the next season.
