Abstract : Fruit bud differentiation of both cvs was initiated in October and attained a peak in mid-November. By mid-December the buds were well developed and the panicles emerged in early January. The total amino acid content of Alphonso twigs with differentiating fruit buds was much higher than in those with vegetative buds; with Totapuri twigs, however, total amino acid content showed the reverse trend. Ethrel [ethephon] at 250 p.p.m. applied to Alphonso trees at 15-day intervals from 15 August in the 'on' year resulted in enhanced yields in the following 'off' year. TIBA [triiodobenzoic acid] at 100 p.p.m., applied twice, was even more effective.
