A study on the physical characteristics of some mango germplasms grown in Mymensingh condition.

Abstract : A study on the physical characters of twenty two mango germplasms namely Rad, Farooquebhog, Neelumbori, Neelumboti, Chausa, Mallika, Tommy Atkin, Hybrid-10, Shindhu, Mixed Special, Gopalbhog, Surmai Fazli, Langra, Khirsapat, Amrapali, BARI Aam-1, Pahlam, Kent, Keitt, Palmar, Kalibhog and Sindhu was carried out at the Germplasms Center of Fruit Tree Improvement Project, Department of Horticulture, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during December, 2002 to December, 2003. Wide variations were observed among the germplasms in different quantitative characteristics of fruits. Tommy Atkin produced the biggest fruit (535.00 g) having the highest stone weight (57.67 g) whereas the germplasms Pahlam had the smallest fruit (180.67 g) containing the medium stone weight (34.00 g). In respect of percent edible portion, Hybrid-10 was the highest (81.62) and Gopalbhog was the lowest (55.75). Peel to pulp ratio as well as pulp to stone ratio was also determined and maximum ratios were observed in Hybrid-10 and Gopalbhog, respectively.
