Abstract : An investigation was carried out to evaluate the performances of ten local and exotic mango varieties viz., Fazli, Khirsapat, Gopalbhogh, BARI Aam-1, BARI Aam-2, BARI Aam-3, Mallika, Ruby, Palmar and Pahutan at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Rahmatpur, Barisal during December 2004 to December 2005. The variety Gopalbhog and Palmar were the earliest and latest in flower bud emergence respectively. Again, panicle emergence and flowering were first recorded in Gopalbhog and the latest in Palmar. BARI Aam-1 and Palmar were the earliest and latest respectively in the harvesting time. The number of fruits per tree was highest (185.00) in BARI Aam-3 and the lowest (20.33) in Ruby. Individual fruit weight was maximum in Fazli (525.60 g) followed by Millika (450.16 g) and minimum in Gopalbhog (190.46 g). The highest (79.20%) and lowest (48.26%) edible portions were recorded in Fazli and Pahutan respectively. Total soluble solids (TSS) content was the highest in BARI Aam-3 (23.00%) and the lowest in Pahutan (15.50%). Considering the overall performances of all the varieties, BARI Aam-3, BARI Aam-2 and BARI Aam-1 were found to be superior for growing under the climatic conditions of Barisal.
