Abstract : This chapter briefly covers mango origin, geographical distribution, taxonomy, and genetic improvement by hybridization and clonal selection, and summarizes progress in the application of molecular markers (isoenzymes, DNA markers, random amplified polymorphic DNA, and simple sequence repeats) for genetic analysis, linkage mapping, gene isolation and analysis, and genetic engineering.
