Peroxidase activity and isoenzymes in abscised and normal mango (Mangifera indica L.) fruits.

Abstract : Abscission in mango fruits was associated with higher peroxidase (PO) activity compared with normal fruits. Higher activity was also present in cv. Haden fruits which abscise more readily than cv. Sensation fruits which normally remain on the tree until ripe. No qualitative change in PO isoenzymes within a cv. was found but only a quantitative increase in the intensity of 2 isoenzymes from the abscised fruits. The isoenzymes showed qualitative differences between the 2 cvs. The possible relationship between increased PO activity, ethylene synthesis and abscission is discussed.
