Abstract : We used a presence-absence sampling method, used when pest populations are hard to quantify. This method only considers if the individual is present or not in the plant, regardless of its abundance. We verified that the binomial distribution adjusted to Aulacaspis tubercularis Newstead data regarding its presence-absence on mango crop located in Jaboticabal, State of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Three sequential sampling plans had been elaborated to monitor this pest, all with error levels equal to 0.20. Safety levels for branches equalled 0.35, and economic damage levels equalled 0.50. The thresholds were lower during the fructification period, with safety levels equal to 0.05 and economic damage levels equal to 0.15. We designed tables for the producer to decide whether control measures are necessary or not.
