Response of Tommy Atkins mango to irrigation under semi arid conditions.

Abstract : An experiment was conducted to determine the response of 4- and 6-year-old mango cv. Tommy Atkins to different water depths in Paraguaçu Valley, Iacu, Bahia, Brazil. The treatments represented water depths based on farmer's management, in which one depth was the same as applied by the management and 4 others were defined by the first and applied by microsprinkler with different flow rates. In 4-year-old plants, the irrigation depths were 662, 776, 844, 955 and 1324 mm while 6-year-old plants were irrigated at depths of 229, 327, 458, 573 and 751 mm. The irrigation depth of 751 mm resulted in better conditions for mango production with crop evapotranspiration varying from 2.9 to 5.7 mm day-1 during the production phase of Tommy Atkins with 2.70 m plant height, 3.40 m tree diameter and 38.8 m leaf area under semiarid conditions.
