Abstract : Two-year studies were made of the leaf and shoot RNA and protein contents of 2 regular bearing mango cvs (Neelum and Bangalora) and 2 biennial bearing cvs (Mulgoa and Banganapalli), assessed at monthly intervals from April to January. Leaf RNA contents attained a maximum in October/November, coinciding with the time of flower bud formation. Shoot RNA contents, however, did not show any marked trend, but annual average leaf and stem RNA contents were higher in an 'on' year than in an 'off' year, indicating that higher shoot RNA status may be associated with greater flowering intensity. Leaf and stem protein contents were highest during the pre-flower-bud-formation stage.
