Abstract : This chapter discusses the origin, history, spread, morphology, cultivars, uses and constituents, ecology, agronomy and propagation of edible fruits (apple (Malus domestica), avocado (Persea americana), banana (Musa sp.), sweet cherry (Prunus avium) and sour cherry (Prunus cerasus), citrus orange (Citrus sinensis), lemon (Citrus limon), grapefruit (Citrus paradisi), mandarin (Citrus reticulata), grape (Vitis vinifera), mango (Mangifera indica), pawpaw (Carica papaya), peach (Prunus persica), apricot (Prunus armeniaca), pear (Pyrus communis), pineapple (Ananas comosus), European plum (Prunus domestica), Japanese plum (Prunus salicina), black currant (Ribes nigrum), red currant (Ribes rubrum), gooseberry (Ribes grossularia [Ribes uva-crispa]), ornamental Ribes (Ribes sanguineum), raspberry (Rubus idaeus), black raspberry (Rubus occidentalis), wineberry (Rubus phoenicolasius), blackberry (Rubus fruticosus) and strawberry (Fragaria ananassa)) and nuts (almonds (Prunus dulcis), cashew (Anacardium occidentale), hazelnut (Corylus avellana), pistachio (Pistacia vera), chestnut (Castanea sativa) and walnut (Juglans regia)).
