Abstract : Participatory rural appraisal (PRA) was conducted to identify the constraints in mango production faced by farmers in Sreenivaspura taluk (Kolar district, Karnataka). The constraints were ranked using the rank based quotient (RBQ) technique. The most important production problems identified were lack of irrigation facilities, high incidence of pest and diseases, non-availability of quality planting material and large area under old orchards. The specific problem in pest and diseases were also identified and ranked. Among the diseases, powdery mildew, sooty mould were widespread followed by anthracnose and rust. Among the insect pests mango hopper, fruit fly, stone weevil and shoot borer were important. Strategies for tackling the problem were discussed.
