Abstract : This present trial was carried out during 2000-01 and 2001-02, in Bhagalpur, Bihar, India, to study the vegetative growth and floral characters of 12 mango cultivars. Zardalu, Sunder Prasad and Hushnara were observed to be vigorous in vegetative growth, while Moovendun showed dwarf stature. Maximum duration of panicle emergence (48.50 days) and first emergence was also observed in Zarda on 6 January. Zardalu had the maximum panicle length (32.75 cm) and breadth (18.35 cm). Maximum blooming period of 37.50 days was observed in Pairi, while it was minimum in Sunder Prasad (23.83 days). Anthesis started on 27 January and continued up to 24 March. The total number of flowers per panicle ranged from 992.67 in Champakelwa to 1518.00 in Zardalu. The percentage of perfect flowers was maximum in Pairi (27.62) and minimum in Moovendun (14.73). Due to long blooming period pairi may prove as a good pollinizer.
