Abstract : A method of identifying fourteen mango hybrids along with their parents was designed using a DNA typing procedure employing RAPD markers. Ten of the 80 operon primers screened produced 139 usable bands. Cluster analysis based on Jaccard's coefficient of similarity using UPGMA revealed low to medium diversity among hybrids. Hybrids, which had Neelum, Alphonso, and Mulgoa as one of their parents, formed into distinct cluster. Hybrid Neelgao with Mulgoa as its male parent stood distinctly in the dendrogram comprising hybrids along with their parents. The study indicates the potential for use of RAPD markers in identification of parent similarity among hybrids.
