Effect and performance of intercrops in mango orchards.

Abstract : Field experiments were conducted in Maharashtra, India, during 2001-04 to find out suitable intercropping system of agronomic intercrops in fruit orchards. The treatments comprised: mango + soyabean - gram (T1); mango + cowpea - mustard (T2); mango + sesamum - fallow (T3); mango + sesamum - fallow (T4); sole mango (T5). T1 gave the highest plant height (4.59 m), plant spread (3.43 m), fruits per plot (66.83), gross returns (Rs. 21?089/ha) and net returns (Rs. 14?813/ha). T3 had the highest stem girth (3.96 m).
