Abstract : Studies were carried out to assess the extent of removal of nutrient elements by the crop. The levels of N, P, K, Ca and Mg were determined in (a) 4-6 inch long panicles, (b) at the post-bloom stage, (c) at the pea stage, (d) at the marble stage, (e) in half-size fruit and (f) in fully grown fruit. The data are tabulated. N, P and K reached the highest level at the (c) stage, and Ca and Mg at the (b) stage. The level of all elements declined thereafter, reaching the lowest level at the (f) stage.
