Abstract : The objective of this study was to know the different stages of apical bud development (morphogenesis) of 'Tommy Atkins' mango. Ten 15-year-old mango trees were used during two years. Two apical buds were collected every two weeks from September 30 through December 30 of each year and weekly from January to February on the first year and until March on the second year. The buds were characterized both macro- and microscopically. Twelve external and nine apical bud development stages were determined. Externally, the initial buds that will form inflorescences showed a scales separation and increase in the bud size taking an enlarged form; these morphological traits can be corroborated at the field, being helpful for flowering management.
