Abstract : Studies were conducted to evaluate the postharvest quality of the mango cv. Tommy Atkins fruit commercialized in the city of Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The fruits were collected in 3 commercial establishments (market of great port, free fair and market of small port). In each establishment, 6 collections were conducted, distributed during the months of August, September and October. The treatments comprised 2 fruits for the experimental unit for physical-chemical analyses and 5 fruits for plant pathology analyses. The days of collection were considered as blocks and the markets as treatments. The variables analysed were: mass; longitudinal and ventral lengths; price; internal appearance; external appearance; firmness; soluble solids; titratable acidity; soluble solids and titratable acidity relation; pH; and incidence and frequency of fungus isolation. The fruits commercialized in the 3 establishments presented physical and chemical characteristics that fit in the standard considered reasonable for consumption in natura of Tommy Atkins fruits. A high incidence of spots and/or podrition, mainly in market C was found. The fungus found in the isolation frequency belonged to the Colletotrichum, Alternaria, Aspergillus, Lasiodiplodia [Botryodiplodia] and Rhizopus genera.
