Abstract : Tabulated data are presented and discussed on vigour in relation to root-bark percentage, stomatal count and number of xylem vessels per unit area of root in cross combinations of Dashehari with Neelum, Bangalore and Topari Red Small. Low root-bark percentage led to vigorous growth and was governed by a polygenic system with environment markedly influencing expression of the character. Intermediate inheritance of stomatal count, attributed to incomplete dominance, was associated with a semivigorous habit. Few xylem vessels were dominant over many and were associated with vigorous growth.
