Abstract : Sigmoid growth curves were characteristic of the development of both fruit and seed of the mango cvs Chausa and Dashehari. The flowers were pollinated in early March and the greatest percentage increase in growth occurred in April, followed by May. Cell division in the exocarp continued for 5 weeks from anthesis in Dashehari and 6 weeks in Chausa, whereas in the mesocarp it continued for a further week in each case. The slowing down of fruit growth after 64 days in Dashehari and 79 days in Chausa was associated with the hardening of the endocarp and the slowing down of seed growth.
