Improved polythene band for the control of mango mealy-bug in Punjab.

Abstract : Three banding methods were compared for their efficiency in preventing Drosicha mangiferae nymphs from ascending 25-year-old mango trees. The use of an improved polyethylene band (25 cm wide and 200 gauge) nailed to the trunk at ground level, earthed-up and treated with methyl parathion dust at 10 day intervals gave the best control, and was the cheapest method, the easiest to apply and the one least affected by weather. Additionally, descending gravid females were trapped in June.
