Abstract : In a 7-year trial with mango trees, cv. Peach, the treatments compared were as follows: selective pruning in which one fifth of each tree was pruned over a 5-year period; severe pruning, in which only the main scaffold branches were retained; and benefit pruning, in which one tree was left unpruned and all the other trees immediately surrounding it were severely pruned. Average yields were highest (304 kg/tree) with benefit pruning, compared with 99, 40 and 227 kg/tree with selective, severe and no pruning, respectively.
