Abstract : The study was to identify the pathogenic bacteria causing bacterial leaf spot which was found in Hainan and Guangxi. The morphological, physiological and biochemical characteristics of 10 pathognic bacterial strains were observed, and the bacteria staining, pathogenicity tests and gyrB sequence were also done. The results showed that the pathogen of mango bacterial leaf spot was Xanthomonas arboricola. This was the first report of a pathovar Xanthomonas arboricola on mango in the world. In order to distinguish the disease from mango bacterial black spot disease caused by X. campestris pv. mangiferaeindicae, we proposed the name arboricola leaf spot for the disease. Further studies should be required for determining pathovar status of the strain.
