Abstract : This paper examines the changes in district-wise and crop-wise area under horticultural crops under the EGS-linked Horticulture Programme in Maharashtra, the number of beneficiaries who have availed of this scheme, and the subsidy disbursed by the government. It also examines the net returns of the beneficiaries who have availed of this scheme in Ratnagiri Taluka (Ratnagiri district) with respect to mango crop, as well as the net returns of the beneficiaries in Morshi Taluka (Amravati district) with respect to orange (mandarin) crop. Finally, policy suggestions are presented so as to further promote horticultural activity in Maharashtra.
