Abstract : Studies were conducted to increase the postharvest conservation of mango cv. Tommy Atkins with the use of wax and PVC film. The fruits were harvested at commercial harvesting point and conditioned in trays. The percentage of loss of fresh matter, volume, percentage of peel, pulp and seed, pulp firmness, pericarp colouration, total soluble solids, total titratable acidity and soluble solid/titratable acidity were determined. The use of wax, without the supplemental use of PVC, was more efficient on reducing the loss of fresh matter and for increasing the firmness. It was observed that the fruits immersed in wax resisted the change in colouration and maturity. There was a lesser maintenance of soluble solid content in fruits immersed in wax and the use of PVC. The immersion of the fruits in wax and the PVC wrapping resulted in greater acid content.
