Abstract : Chlumetia transversa Wlk., which is known to infest mango in India and the Philippines, is recorded for the first time from Bangladesh. Infestation of the inflorescences was observed on a farm at Mymensingh in February-May in 1977 and 1978; larvae entered the inflorescence near the tip and tunnelled downwards inside, causing withering of the whole flower-head. Nearly all the young grafted mango trees on the farm were attacked, and the percentage of infested inflorescences/tree ranged from 10 to 20. Eggs were laid on young leaves and inflorescences, and pupation took place within the feeding tunnel. Under laboratory conditions, the life-cycle of C. transversa was completed in 31-38 days.
