Abstract : The report is based on Commodity specific study on Mango undertaken by NABARD in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and West Bengal in the year 2005-06. Primary data is collected from a total of 186 sample respondents comprising mango growers, mango processors, traders, exporters, mango growers associations etc. Trends in area, production and yield of mango in world and in major Indian States are presented along with overview of cultivation and cultural practices of mango orchards. Irregular fruit bearing, non-availability of proper infrastructure, lack of training/awareness of good cultivation practices are some of the constraints identified. The important recommendations are support and incentives for small firms, promotion of contract farming, formation of Self-Help-Groups, establishment of Vapour Heat Treatment Plant (VHPT), provision of genuine quality planting material, judicious irrigation and effective plant protection measures, availability of Institutional credit etc.
