Influence of leaf leachate of Mangifera indica on growth and N2 fixing capacity of Azolla pinnata.

Abstract : The growth promoting effect of Mangifera indica leaf leachates were observed. The leaf leachate of senescent leaves of M. indica showed maximum growth of Azolla pinnata followed by mature and young leaves. The chlorophyll, total nitrogen and phosphorus contents and the heterocyst frequency were highest with leaf leachate of senescent leaves of M. indica where as least response was noted with leaf leachate of young leaves.
