Comparative economics of sericulture with major crops in Bangalore and Kolar districts of Karnataka - a micro analysis.

Abstract : A study was undertaken in Bangalore Rural and Kolar districts to study the economics of sericulture and other major crops in the region. The study revealed that the net returns/ha/yr was Rs.20,255.74, Rs.51,394.15 and Rs.83,149.64 for small, medium and large farmers respectively. The employment generation was maximum incase of sericulture (120 man days/acre/year) followed by vegetables (cabbage 100 man days). Sericulture showed the highest B:C ratio with 1:2.51 followed by grapes with 1:2.34. Linkage analysis indicated that sericulture and paddy was having a strong linkage with live stock (13.84 and 6.07 respectively).
