Evaluation of mango varieties for the Eastern Dry Zone of Karnataka.

Abstract : A field experiment was conducted in the Eastern Dry Zone of Karnataka at Agricultural Research Station, Chintamani, Kolar district. Nineteen cultivars of mango were evaluated for their growth and development, cumulative fruit yield, suitability of varieties for different purposes and physico-chemical parameters were studied for 12 consecutive (1990-2002). Cultivars Raspuri, Baneshan, Bangalora and Rajgira recorded higher values for the growth parameters studied while cultivars Beneshan and Bangalora were found superior in fruit yield followed by Neelum and Rajgira while Vanaraj and Jahangir recorded higher pulp recovery percentage. The highest TSS was noticed in Kalepad, Goa Mankur and Dashehari.
