Abstract : Mango fruits, cv. Samar Bahisht Chausa, were picked when mature green and the effects were compared of several treatments on wastage from various causes during holding at room temperature. The treatments comprised wrapping in polythene, tissue paper, newspaper or cellophane; dipping in 2,4-D or 2,4,5-T, both at 20 - 60 p.p.m., or in MH at 250 - 750 p.p.m.; and a fungicidal wax [not specified] manufactured locally. After 12 days the fruits were fully ripe and acceptable for consumption, and after 16 days they were overripe. Weight loss was progressive with all treatments, and was least with the fungicidal wax and polythene wrappers. Losses due to diseases and physiological disorders were least with fungicidal wax, and tissue paper wrappers. Wastage was also slightly reduced by 2,4,5-T and 2,4-D, both at 60 p.p.m.
