Abstract : Studies were carried out with the biennial bearing mango cv. Langra and the regularly bearing cv. Baramaria. Young trees were subjected to short days (8 h), long days (16 h), normal days (ND) or continuous light (CL). Light treatments were applied from mid-April to mid-May, mid-June to mid-July or mid-August to mid-September in one year and from mid-October to mid-November in the following year. Short days significantly decreased shoot growth in length and girth in both cvs whereas long days and CL increased it. Short days had an inhibiting effect on flowering in both cvs whereas long days and CL stimulated it. In both years none of the treatments induced any off-season flowering in the 2 cvs, both of which flowered normally in the spring.
