Abstract : During a survey conducted in Panchkula district, Haryana, India, in April 2011, plant parasitic nematodes were found in the rhizosphere of saplings of tree species. Tylenchulus semipenetrans was very common in soil samples collected from a nursery in Cheekan. In July-August, soil samples and samples of roots of mango, silver oak [Grevillea robusta], Ashoka tree [Saraca asoca], Arjun terminalia [Terminalia arjuna], Indian gooseberry [Phyllanthus emblica], Devilīs tree [Alstonia sp.] and toon (Toona ciliata) saplings from this nursery were analysed for the presence of Tylenchulus semipenetrans. Only the roots of Toona ciliata harboured females of this nematode. Male adults and second-stage juveniles were abundant in the soil samples. In 2010, roots of malabar nut (Adhatoda vasica [Justicia adhatoda]) grown in a nursery in Hisar were severely infested by Tylenchulus semipenetrans. This is thought to be the first report of the parasitism of Adhatoda vasica and Toona ciliata by Tylenchulus semipenetrans.
