Abstract : Studies were conducted to evaluate the suitability of mango peel and mulberry pomace composts for growing Pleurotus ostreatus. The composts were prepared by mixing mango peel or mulberry pomace with cow dung (3:1) separately on a cemented surface under shade. Wheat straw and fruit waste composts were placed in polyethylene bags and autoclaved and used for spawning. Data were recorded on the number and weight of fruiting bodies up to 28 days after opening of the beds. The moisture, fibre, carbohydrate and protein contents of mature fruiting bodies were also determined. Results showed that composts prepared from fruit processing waste served as good substrates for the production of P. ostreatus with better quality.
