Abstract : A study was conducted to identify the status and issues related to adoption of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) in the Philippines, specifically for two of the country's top fruit exports: bananas and mangoes. Results of the study indicate a high level of GAP adoption in the Davao banana industry because of the number of corporate farms in the area that cater to the export market. In the case of individual mango growers, most of whom have small farms, there is a lack of awareness and understanding of GAP. Factors that were found to encourage and enable banana and mango farmers to adopt GAP are highlighted, as well as the constraints to GAP adoption. Policy recommendations to facilitate GAP adoption are presented.
