Effect of 2,4-D sprays on fruit drop of Hindy Be Sinnara mango.

Abstract : The percentage fruit drop was reduced from 97.7% in mango trees, cv. Hindy Be Sinnara, sprayed with tap water to 96.8% in trees sprayed at the pea-stage (early April) with 10 p.p.m. 2,4-D at 15 litres/tree. Fruit drop was also reduced by 10 p.p.m. 2,4-D such that final panicle productivity was 39% higher in treated than in untreated trees (0.82 and 0.59 fruits/panicle, respectively). 2,4-D at 5 or 20 p.p.m. did not affect final percentage fruit drop or fruit number/panicle and no 2,4-D sprays affected physical or chemical fruit properties.
